| ATTENTION! Listen up! You better have clicked this thread with the intent of learning how to use your helocopter EFFECTIVELY. Thats right, EFFECTIVELY. No more will you fly around like a headless chicken trying to get your bearings. you WILL understand ME OR your helo WILL end up DEAD.
DISCLAIMER: THIS GUIDE CONTAINS PERSONAL OPINIONS.
Table of Contents.
1. Basic Controls. 2. Pilot-Gunner Relationship. 3. Specializations. 4. Communication. 5. Tatics. 6. Fight or Flight.
1. BASIC CONTROLS
I DON'T THINK I NEED TO TEACH YOU THIS. GO TO FLYNN FOR THIS.
2. Pilot-Gunner Relationship.
THE Pilot is the Transport while the Gunner is the Hammer of which DEATH AND FIREY DESTRUCTION can be rained on thy enemies. This means while the Gunner takes center stage in this dance, The Pilot is not the Gunner's bitch. The Pilot might not have the offensive firepower he/she needs but the Gunner can't do jack shit without someone to fly his ass around.
The 2 General types of Pilots or Gunners are Assertive and Supportive.
Assertive Pilots: Charges in Disregards safety in favour of kills. Normally has Armour or Improved Weapons. Does not say where he/she is going or looking.
Supportive Pilots: Hangs further back Lets the Gunner nail the targets. Normally has Reload, Alt Weapons or Countermeasures. Either tells or points the Gunner in the right directions.
Assertive Gunners: Actively searches for targets to decimate. Shoots at just about every tango. Not concerned with danger. Does not warn Pilot of what he/she is shooting at.
Supportive Gunners: Searches for any threat. Selects tangos based on threat level. Constantly alert of dangers. Tells the Pilot where and what he needs done.
Using this knowlage is important as you should find the combination that works best for YOU and or YOUR GUNNER.
EXAMPLES RAGEMODO: Dual Assertive, AKA Sucidial. CAS: Dual Support, Generally rare but most likely found far for any ground battle. iRL: Pilot[s] Gunner[a], Gunner gets to trample on everything. AiRL: Pilot[a] Gunner[s], Pilot gets to trample on everything.

| 3. PERKS/SPECIALIZATIONS *GUESSWORK, NEEDS TESTING*
Specs are split between ACTIVE and PASSIVE.
PASSIVES work when selected.always. Active Armour Improved Weaopns Reload Electronic Warfare
ACTIVES require a button[M2] to activate. Smoke/Countermeasures Alt Weapons Advanced Optics
Using 2 DIFFERENT Passives will give you both bonuses. Actives are seperate if different and it is not reccomended to have same one. SPECS DO NOT STACK.
Gunners are RECCOMENDED to take passive specs as it is the pilot who does the heavy lifting in the spec department.

| 4. Communication
SOOOO FRIGGIN IMPORTANT.
Consists of 2 types: GROUND TO AIR AND AIR TO AIR.
GROUND TO AIR
Maintain constant chatter with the boots on the ground in your squad AND the rest of your team. The guys in your squad may see something but they can AND WILL miss a tango with a RPG.
Likewise, tell your mates on the dirt if they are running for something like a tank or anti-tank mine or even DAT WOOKIE on DAT hill there. SOME people are more likely to help out by spotting shit. Lend them a hand and your chopper will gain a valuable DCTM or [Danger Close Tango/Target Marker] that will increase the EFFECTIVENESS of your chopper.
AIR TO AIR
Think about this for a second. Gunner sees s tank pointed at the chopper. Pilot keeps flying level but see a RPGtango aiming high. Pilot panics and starts lifting. Tank blows chopper out of the sky.
This entire situation could have been avoided had both the Pilot and Gunner COMMUNICATED with EACH OTHER.
HERES AN IDEA OF WHAT TO DO:
1.Gunner warns pilot of tank OR starts spamming at it. 2.Pilot strafes the tango OR tells the Gunner to get it. 3.Pilot misses and the Gunner gets it OR the Gunner gets it. [SECRET: BOTH MISS AND DIE] 4.Both concentrate on either avoiding or killing the tank. 5.??? 6.YOU HAS WON THIS ENGAGEMENT.
DO NOT SPAM.
Both of you need accurate infomation so as to make the correct choice of fight or flight. CAS [Close Air Support] choppers need to also be sure the boots in the dirt do not clutter your airwaves with ENEMY BOAT SPOTTED.

| 5. Tatics
ADVANCED SECTION. RECCOMENDED TO HAVE AT LEAST 30 HOURS FLYING. 25 IF IN COMBAT.
MAIN POINTS OF THIS SECTION IS DISTANCE, SPEED AND HEIGHT.
Fairly large section so it needs a:
Table of Contents.
1. Landing 2. Doging / Survival 3. Shoot n' Scoot 4. snapshot 5. Prediction 6. Strafing 7. "Crircle of Death"
1. Landing/ Low hover
HOW TO: Locate a suitable landing spot and slowly feather[TAP] the directional keys untill your wheels hit the ground. Leave your mouse controls alone or you might filp.
WHEN AND WHERE: When you Absolutely feel safe or when there are friendly engineers to repair behind cover.
LOW HOVER is a safer and more dangerous version of landing as it allows you to very quickly get HEIGHT again while allowing engineers to repair from the ground. *requires hovering know-how and situational awareness.
2. Doging/ Survival
Too large to be a Sub-section, will be a full section soon.
3. Shoot n' Scoot
HOW TO: Open fire on a target while stationary. displace/bug out/fly off as soon as the round connect.
WHEN AND WHERE: Gunner's Choice. Most useful on tanks and buildings.
4. Snapshot
HOW TO: 1. * REQUIRES PILOT HAVE ALT WEAPONS* Hide behind SOLID cover while locking on with Hellfire/KORN, pop up and fire when locked. 1B. Lock on and change facing of chopper as the missle is fired, thus making the missle harder to see coming. 2. Same as 1. BUT Gunner sprays targets instead. NO REQUIREMENT TO HAVE ALT WEAPONS AS THE GUNNER IS SHOOTING STUFF.
WHEN AND WHERE: Maps with Decent Chopper Cover. [Atammaca Desert's Ship Point B] Buildings are at best Temp cover as they can be destroyed.
5. Prediction
TF2 TERM: BC2's TERM IS DROP AJUSTMENT. Your weapons have bullet drop and travel time. guess.
6. Strafing
HOW TO: 1. Overfly[fly over/past] the target, guns blazing. 2. Flank around the target while shooting.
WHEN AND WHERE: 1. Pilot's Choice if no gunner is present. Very dangerous if opponent is alert. 2. Pilot's choice but Gunner has to agree. Most used tatic with Full Compliments.[Gunner+Pilot]
7. "Circle of Death"
HOW TO: Unknown ATM.
WHEN AND WHERE: Really Really skilled pilots from BF2. *Do not attemmpt, requires at least 200hrs in BF2 Flight School.

| 6. Fight or Flight.
AKA Doging and Survival
Table of Contents 1.Threat Assement. 2.Threat levels. 3.Response. 4.Situations. and finally : Overall.
Now, you have seen this before. You were flying around when someone came and not only killed you and wrecked your ride, they stopped you from having fun too. IF you want that to change, You need to add a thing or two in your head first.
1. Threat Assement. KNOW YOUR ENEMIES. As most of you already know, tracers are NOT your friends. Neither is the wanker that shot it.
Threats are split into several catagories:
HIGH RISK Tracers. Other choppers. UAVs. Any mounted weapon. Terrain. TREES.
Medium Risk Tanks. Light vechicles. Mounted Gls. Infantry. Buildings.
Low Risk Wookies. Boats. M-Coms. Motars.
INFANTY 1.ANYONE LOOKING AT YOU. 2.Any Tracer-shooting wankers. 3.Engineers. 4,Medics, 5.Assaults. 6.Runners. 7.Foot-Mobiles. 8.AFK's. 9.Snipers. 10.Wookies.
2. Threat Levels.
Density of Threats in area/Ablity of Gunner+Team = Threat Level.
CODE GREY No Visible/Possible Threats. CODE GREEN Some Possible Threats. CODE YELLOW Some Visible Threats. CODE RED Known Visible Threats. CODE BLACK Known Visible/Possible Threats. VERY BAD.
3. Responses.
SPOTTED - Either gun down or fly away from area. TAKING FIRE - Exfil ASAP. TRACERED - Pray. LOCKED - BAIL. 4. Situations.
Transport choppers are reccomended to stay within codes grey-yellow only if one or both weapons are manned. But if needed, can stray into red and black for squad exfiltration or serious close air support.
Single Pilots should not tempt fate by landing in the middle of a firefight.
Think out your objective and the route to it. Are there any tangos? Hostile AA? Cover? Close Ground Support?
Should you try and let your gunner nail the bad guys or get out ASAP? YOUR Flight or Fight response is CRITICAL. Running from a fight you cannot hope to win is not cowardice nor stupidity, but if you dont follow your gut feeling and infomation provided by your team, you are doing it wrong.
Doging to follow in another chapter. [6B]

| hmmm not sure what to say
but because i rarely have a good gunner / good pilot idk what to say
but yeah its nice having a cool copter doods that rarely dies / always returns to base for repairs AND destroying the heavy stuff that would help infantries move forward easier

| Well, this covers attack choppers fairly well, but what about the HIND and the UH-64 Blackhawk?
Like, defensive pilot with offensive crew. (or is this actually covered in the guide?)

Based off both Attack Helos and Taxi's as it IS PILOT + GUNNER CHARACTERISTICS. EXAMPLE GIVEN ARE ALSO FOR TRANSPORTS EXCEPT AiRL for the blackhawk as the Pilot has no guns. Lrn2Read skeek. Transport choppers will be covered in the FIGHT OR FLIGHT section as it concerns them the most.
